The Battle of Crécy began in mid afternoon on 26th August 1346. It was fought between the French army and an army which had sailed from England to devastate and pillage lands close to the English Channel. This battle marked the beginning of the Hundred Years War.
Here, the French army of King Philippe VI of Valois was defeated by the troops of King Edward III of England on 26 August 1346. This date marks the beginning of the Hundred Years' War. Panoramic view of the woods. Not to be missed: Bohemia Cross (on the D56 in the direction of Fontaine-sur-Maye).
