The Somme Valley

The Somme Valley
The towpath along the Somme river has been converted into a comfortable cycling path. You will let yourself be guided by the flow of water and enjoy the historical and natural riches of the valley.

At the heart of this Somme Valley is the village of Long. The banks of the Somme are very nicely landscaped and the view of the castle and its garden is very pleasant. There is also an old power station to visit and you are very close to the marshes for beautiful walks. Discover, accompanied by local experts, the flora and fauna and let yourself be told the extraordinary history of this village which prospered thanks to the men and women who extracted black gold from the valley. Many hikes can be done with friends or family, on foot, by bike along the Vallée de Somme cycle route or on the river by electric boat, and on the ponds by kayak or paddle. The lock house allows you a restful stop, take the time to sit facing the river and observe the locks in operation.

Along the towpath, discover Pont Rémy, a flowery village nestled in the Somme Valley, its heritage and cross its 10 bridges by following the "round the bridges" circuit.
Admire the Saint Pierre church and its listed 16th century stained glass windows, the remains of the neo-Gothic style castle, formerly a 15th century fortress.
Extend your walk along the towpath, at a place called "the port", a stop is required in the village Arebona, a camp which recreates life in Gallic times.
