Hunting in the Bay
Waterfowl hunting is an ancestral tradition in the Baie de Somme, which developed alongside grazing centuries ago. It is practiced from huts, located on the edge of a pond, on the coast or inland, allowing hunters to hide there. This practice is now highly regulated.
Hunting is practiced and regulated in the Baie de Somme. On 7000 ha of surface, 3000 ha are hunting territories and 4000 ha are hunting reserves or Nature Reserve. 3 types of waterfowl hunting are currently practiced:
  • Hut hunting
  • Hutteau hunting
  • Boot hunting
Rules:
A hunting license and a special license issued by the association are required for any practice. You can consult the internal regulations here.

Security :
In the Bay, you have to be vigilant:
  • The tide. The flood arrives 3h30 before high tide at the level of Hourdel, 2h30 at the level of the locks of the hunting basin of Crotoy and at the level of the lighthouse of Saint Valery sur Somme. In the event of exceptional natural events (storm, strong wind, thunderstorm ...), the tide can arrive with advance (more than an hour). Always have a floating hut nearby to avoid drama!
  • Fog. Especially in winter, at any time of the day, you can find yourself in a thick fog, losing all your bearings, remember to bring your compass.
  • Storms. In the Bay, a standing man acts as a lightning rod, do not neglect this mortal danger.
