Exposition "Pippa Darbyshire – L'Atelier en Baie" à l'Abbaye de Saint-Riquier
? Saturday, March 8 to Sunday, August 17, 2025
The Centre culturel de l?Abbaye de Saint-Riquier invites you to discover "L?atelier en Baie" by artist Pippa Darbyshire.
The Scottish painter has made the Baie de Somme her home for the past 25 years, and continues to paint her landscapes, particularly at low tide. This exhibition retraces her artistic career and immerses visitors in her oil painting methods.
Pippa Darbyshire, Scottish, attended the Fine Arts School in Ipswich and opened a gallery in Suffoclock in 1990. In 2001, she moved with her husband Peter to the Somme, where she opened a gallery in Noyelles-sur-Mer devoted to her own work. This was a major turning point in her career. Success followed immediately. She exhibited exclusively in her own home for 20 years, enjoying her independence as well as the contact with customers from Northern Europe: Belgium, Holland, Germany, Great Britain, but also, in large numbers, from Paris.
"Pippa" paints landscapes of great simplicity, generally monochrome, essentially the sea in shades of grey, which she prepares herself using high-quality pigments, ultramarine blue and umber, and oil. Her paintings of the Baie de Somme, for which she is best known, are highly recognizable for their horizontal lines of sand and water and the serenity they exude.
